The Whole-Body Approach to Osteoporosis
The only cure is in your willingness to get involved.
Let me talk to you about osteoporosis, about "getting older", and about your need to think and act to protect your health and the health of your children.
Are your bones healthy? Never been tested? Well, either way, whether you have osteoporosis, or you think that your bones are healthy, you need to be engaged in learning about your body, and living in harmony with it.
I want to introduce you to The Whole-Body Approach to Osteoporosis by R. Keith McCormick, DC; published by New Harbinger Publications, Inc. I have only read some of the book, but can tell you that it is a wealth of knowledge and a source of protection for you and your family.
Please read this one paragraph from page 2 of the introduction and see if you aren't drawn to the wisdom.
"Osteoporosis is a chronic disorder. It's not a condition you can fix by swallowing a daily or weekly pill, or even by a yearly intravenous infusion of an extremely powerful bone-specific medication. Unfortunately, in our country the same approach used to treat acute conditions is also used with chronic disorders such as osteoporosis. For example, in crisis care management, the doctor visually examines a patient, possibly scrapes for a culture or analyzes the patient's blood, and then prescribes a pill or a shot to reduce the symptoms. The underlying physiological vulnerability is usually never questioned-let alone assessed. The patient feels better,
the crisis is satisfactorily averted, and yet the nutrient deficiency or physiological dysfunction that might eventually damage his or her long-term health is not addressed and stays unchanged."
Dr. McCormick is talking about the necessity for engagement in ones own health. The central theme of his book is osteoporosis, but the broad theme is living a healthful life.
I am considering organizing a book group here in Ventura, CA to read and discuss this book. But the group would be more; it would be a vehicle for each of us to engage more fully with our lives and our health. Send me an e-mail if you would be interested in being a participant in a The Whole-Body Approach to Osteoporosis - book group. kychiro@pacbell.net

With great pleasure, on Tuesday the 9th of February, 2010, 6 of the 9 remaining members of Eat Local One Year 2009 received from the Ventura County Board of Supervisors a Resolution and Certificates of Commendation. In part, the Resolution read; “WHEREAS, nine individuals completed and entire year of local eating following the guidelines of Eat Local One Year, mapped the current frontier of eating locally in Ventura County, and inspired others to expand their own utilization of local food;”.
During the presentation of the Resolution and Certificates at the Ventura County Government Center, Supervisors Bennett, Parks and Long each stated that they would sign up to participate in Locavore Lite 2010. It is now confirmed that the CEO of Ventura County, Marty Robinson has also committed to participate.
The local-food movement is growing. Please consider who you would like to invite to join us.

BACKGROUND: Locavore Lite 2010 (http://locavorelite2010.webs.com) is a fresh, fun, healthy, Ventura County-based, local-food project that welcomes participants from our county and from around the world. The project is designed to increase public awareness of the importance and availability of local farm produce, by encouraging residents to involve themselves in their local food system. A major objective of the project is to reduce global warning.
A locavore is a person who eats food that is grown or raised locally. The term Locavore Lite suggests a form of local eating that is so easy, that anyone can do it. If you have an interest in delicious food, health, farming, the environment, the local economy, quality of life, climate change, or food safety; then you will want to come to this meeting, and participate with your friends and family in Locavore Lite 2010.
Dulanie Ellis is the Chair of the Food & Ag Committee of the Ojai Valley Green Coalition and is the founder of Walk Your Talk Productions, a film production company working to engage communities through film to provide relevant inquiry and seek solutions for community-based issues of global significance. Dulanie produced and directed “Home Grow’n”, a documentary about “smart growth” and urban sprawl in Ventura County. http://www.ojaivalleygreencoalition.org http://www.walkyourtalk.tv/dulanie.php

The Abundant Table Farm Project (ATFP) has partnered with DeBusschere Family Farms to form “Join the Farm! CSA”. As part of the ATFP, the five interns are connecting working the land, spirituality, and social justice by living in the Farm House, sustaining Join the Farm!
